Mission

Saint Jude Tuition Fund Corporation mission: To support the education of motivated men and women globally so that their children will be educated, thus making the world a more peaceful place.

Results

We have supported one family in their efforts to escape ISIS is Iraq, and are now helping a young Rwandan mother stay with her family while seeking a higher education in medicine or pharmacy. One of our South Sudanese scholarship recipients has graduated with a degree in Pharmacy. A student at Cochise College in Arizona received a scholarship to study Computer Information Systems. We have also advised and have mentored dozens of students. We have supported workers seeking to obtain training and certifications to obtain better employment.

Target demographics

World Peace in two generations: first educate the mothers.

Direct beneficiaries per year

A South Sudanese graduated from Pharmacy school. A student from Ghana received a scholarship at Cochise College to study Computer Information Systems. A refugee from Rwanda received a scholarship to study academic English in South Africa working toward a degree in Pharmacy.

Our Board Members

Kathryn Williams President

Kathryn has 30+ years experience working with universities and colleges across the U.S.A. She has a degree in Aerospace Technology and has for decades supported women's technical education. She supported the California Student Success Task Force, and promoted the passage of the Student Transfer Achievement Reform Act (SB 1440). Ms. Williams supported and promoted the Math Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) program in the California State Universities, worked with interns from the California Community Colleges, and supported the Human Genome and Gamma Ray Spectrometer programs at the University of Arizona. Ms. Williams is a member of the P.E.O. sisterhood.

Holly Shiflett, PhD VP of Strategic Development

Holly has had a career in higher education, mostly in the field of online learning where she has worked with universities around the world to implement online programs. Some recent partnerships have included: Vlerick Business School in Belgium, National University in California and the University of Pittsburgh where she launched the University's first fully online programs. Holly has a PhD in Higher Education Management, MA in Integrated Marketing Communication and BA in Communication Arts.

Thomas M. Barnett, J.D. Vice President

Thomas retired from The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) where, for 13 years, he served as Director of the International Offices on the La Jolla, CA, and Jupiter, FL biomedical research campuses. He was responsible for the management of, and the long-range planning for, TSRI's visa and immigration needs including transforming it from a 'pre' to 'post' 9/11 environment. Mr. Barnett also served on the Board of Directors of the Council for Global Immigration (formerly ACIP) for 9 years and has been a frequent participant in DOS, SEVP, USCIS task forces, and advocacy campaigns on Capitol Hill. He has been a frequent speaker at national symposiums on immigration and human resource related topics. He also served as HR director in both public and private sectors, specifically in higher education and municipal government. Besides immigration, he also specializes in labor relations and alternative dispute resolution. In addition to his graduate studies in theology, Mr. Barnett earned his B.A in philosophy from the University of San Diego, and a J.D. degree from William Mitchell College of Law, St. Paul, MN. He currently resides in San Diego, CA.

Karen Abel Corporate Secretary

Karen also has a passion for helping people. She has a successful career in real estate, is a board member of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Association, was a board member of Columbus Service League, is a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church (and was a CCD teacher), and has a degree from Purdue University in Art History/Medieval Studies. Karen is the co-founder of Saint Jude Tuition Fund.

Linda Kuntz Board Member

Linda has supported our mission for the several years. Linda has an extensive background in the hospitality industry. She has traveled extensively, and has seen the need for education in places like Haiti, Puerto Rico, and downtown Orlando. Linda is very generous with her time and talents to promote raising friends and funds for the Saint Jude Tuition Fund.
